I get a lot of questions about my beauty routine, particularly when it comes to skincare, but I’ve always shied away from sharing due to one simple fact: I’m not a beauty junkie. There, I said it. Seriously! Even though I’m a self-professed shopaholic, I’m just not that into products. I’m a big believer in simplicity and maybe I can chalk it up to good genes, but so far, this philosophy has worked for me. But, nonetheless, you asked, so here goes!
When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do is splash my face with cold water. Yep. Cold water. Even in the winter. It’s shocking, but it is also invigorating, and it’s just a habit of mine. I’ve done some research and it all says that a splash of cold water can tighten up or close your pores, so that’s reason enough for me. When I actually hop in the shower or bath, I use this cleanser to wash away any dirt or oil from the previous night. It has these tiny beads with ginseng and Vitamin C and I love the fresh tingle it gives me in the morning. Once or twice a week, I will also use my Clarisonic Mia 2 to help exfoliate any dead skin cells. This keeps my face feeling super smooth, but I do have to be careful not to overdo it since I have sensitive skin. These babies aren’t cheap, but you have to look at it as an investment. While you do need to change the heads out twice a year, the device itself will last you a good while. In fact, I’ve had mine for about 7 years now and it’s still going strong!
Once I’m all dry, I slather on moisturizer. I’m not super loyal to any one brand, and as long as it is oil-free and has sunscreen in it, I’m good. But lately, I’ve been really loving the Garnier “Clearly Brighter” moisturizer. It has Broad Spectrum SPF 30 plus Vitamin C and LHA antioxidant complex to reduce the look of dark spots and help with sun damage. Since I freckle so easily, this is HUGE! I also love that i’s non-greasy and super light with a fresh fragrance that isn’t overpowering. At under $12, it’s a steal in my opinion. My next step is the only pricey one in my whole routine, but a little goes a long way, so the per use cost is low. I’m not a Rodan & Fields die-hard and before you ask, I don’t sell it. But, I bit the bullet and bought the Multi-Function eye cream from the Redefine line and I do think it’s worth the hype and price. If I put makeup on, I do it at this point. But either way, I finish off with a good swipe of Vaseline Lip Therapy. I’m sort of a chapstick connoisseur, so trust me, this stuff is the BEST. My new favorite is their Limited Edition “Pink Bubbly” with its champagne scent and just a touch of rose hue. I’m pretty sure this would be one of the things I took with me to a deserted island.
So, that’s my morning routine and as you can see, it’s pretty simple. Wash, exfoliate, and moisturize. Boom! My night routine is pretty simple too, but instead of washing my face, I use a reusable make-up cloth (a.k.a. make-up eraser) with some micellar cleansing water (I use this brand), which acts like a magnet for dirt, oil, and make-up. I follow it with Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream, a moisturizer that you can technically use day or night, but that’s a little too heavy for me under make-up. I get these by the two-pack at Costco for around $30, which is a great deal! In fact, it’s won multiple awards, beating out much more expensive brands! I once again dab a little of the R&F Multi-Function eye cream under my eyes, swipe some more Vaseline Lip Therapy on my lips, and call it a
Hope that helps! Happy hunting, y’all!
