#Nsale Finds 2018

So, as everyone knows, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is in full swing and if you are a cardholder, you are already enjoying the sales. If not, click here to change that….it’s not too late! Even if you don’t use the card for purchases, you earn points no matter how you pay, and with the addition of early access, it’s sort of a no-brainer. Okay, PSA complete. On to the fun stuff…..what I bought!

Now, I’m not saying I’m going to keep everything I bought (you hear that, hubby?).  But, I’m not saying I won’t either (sorry, not sorry). It just depends on how it fits and looks in person.  In order to give me the best chance of keeping the most though, I ordered lots of different items, sometimes in multiple colors and often in various sizes. This is key!  This is how I build the majority of my Fall/Winter wardrobe and since my birthday is in just a few weeks, this makes things easy-breezy for the hubs.

Tops

B.P. Raw Edged V-Neck Tee – $11.90

striped v neck

$12 for a top is stupid cheap and this one is such a wardrobe essential that you really need to stock up and get as many as you can justify at that price.  I got several solids last year during the sale, so I opted for a striped one this time. I usually wear an XS in this, so I’d say it’s a generous fit.

Chelsea28 Lace Yoke Top – $45.90

green tank

This is sort of a splurge for me at just under $50, but the lace detail is so lovely and will be great for the holiday season alone or under a cardi for a more casual look.  I ordered an XS based on the reviews….fingers crossed!

Gibson Cozy Fleece Tunic – $39.90

fleece tunic

I love anything made by Gibson and if you add the words “tunic” and “cozy”, I’m buying it. No doubt.  This comes in six colors but I chose the thin grey and white striped one because I think it will go with a ton. I love the hi-low hem and the seam down the middle. These little details make it a tad more interesting, but still an easy piece to pair with jeans or pants.

Cloud Nine Drape Jacket – $59.90

convertible cardi

I’m curious about this one and feel like it could go either way. If it’s microfiber, like it looks in the picture, I’ll likely send it back. But the fact that it’s convertible intrigues me and I figured it was worth a shot. That’s what I love about Nordstrom! You can order it, try it on, and send it back and it’s no big deal!  I ordered an XS in the “merlot” color.

Patagonia Performance Better Sweater – $94.90

sweater vest

These babies have a cult following and I’m already a huge fan myself so I figured I’d grab another while it’s on sale.  The light grey color should go with everything and it will be great for those chilly Fall night soccer games. I typically wear an X-Small in these so I’d say they are pretty true to size.

Trouve Rib Funnel Neck Sweater – $52.90

funnel neck sweater

I’m all about cozy sweaters in the cold months and I think the funnel neck will be a nice detail.  I’m not sure about the teal color I chose, but at the time, it was either that or red, so we’ll see. It will either bring out my eyes or make me look like I’m twelve years old. I ordered a small based on reviews, and it may swallow me. Again, it’s all about trial and error!

Dreamers Exposed Seam Sweater – $29.90

v neck sweater

This is a real bargain at just under $30 and I feel like it’s totally worth a try. The reviews say it’s soft and comfy, which is exactly what I look for in my winter wardrobe.  I chose the mocha color since it was such a good neutral and ordered both a small and x-small since I’ll probably want to wear it with leggings and will need the length.

BlankNYC Moto Jacket – $64.90

mushroom moto jacket

This is a ridiculously low price on a moto jacket and if the reviews are true, it looks a WHOLE lot more expensive than it is!  I ordered it in mushroom so it would go with more and I also got both a small and a medium since several reviewers said it ran small. I have been looking at these types of jackets for several years now, but have never pulled the trigger until now. I’m not sure I can pull it off, but with free shipping and returns, why not at least try? I like that the hood can be removed since I’m not sure how much of a hood-type-of-a-girl I am. Ya know?

Leith Ribbed Shawl Cocoon Sweater – $45.90

pink coccoon cardi

The reviews on this are amazing and I remember it from last year’s sale. I also remember kicking myself for not picking it up then, so I made sure to get it this time. I got the XX-Small in Pink Adobe based on reviews and I’m really hoping it’s as dreamy as it looks. The rounded hem makes it a lot better fitted and all-around more flattering.

Barefoot Dreams Cozy Chic Lite Circle Cardigan – $76.90

barefoot dreams cardi

If you have ever tried anything from “Barefoot Dreams”, then you know how amazing the fabric is. It is literally the stuff dreams are made of!  I bought my first one two years ago during this sale and now make it a point to buy one every year.  I have also bought them as gifts and quickly earned the title of “Best Gift Giver Ever”.  Trust me, this is an absolute MUST! I always get an XS/S and it’s plenty roomy. I wear mine to lounge and out and about around town and I get tons of compliments and envious stares. Do yourself a favor and get one!

Natori Rose Dream Custom Coverage Underwire Bra – $47.90

black bra

This bra is simply fantastic. It is comfortable and flattering and looks so good under any type of clothing!  I buy at least one of these every sale and this time I chose black.  I find it runs true to size and am seriously planning on slowly replacing every bra I have with one of these. I’ve learned the hard way that good bras are expensive. The key is to find them on sale like this and stock up!

Bottoms

Vince Camuto Textured Skinny Ankle Pants – $58.90

black pants

This is a great price for a pair of nice pants and if they look anything on me like they do on the model, I’ll be happy as a clam!  I haven’t bought a new pair of black pants in far too long to admit, so at this price, it was a no-brainer.

Spanx Faux Leather Leggings – $64.90

leather leggings

These were yet another item I regretted not buying during last year’s Anniversary sale.  From what everyone says, they are comfortable, flattering, and bring the whole leggings and sweater look up at least three levels. Sold! They aren’t cheap if you are comparing them to leggings, but if you compare them to leather pants, they are an absolute steal! I bought them in a small and cannot wait to try them on!

Wit & Wisdom Absolution Skinny Jeans – $44.90

wit and wisdom jeans

This is a fantastic price on this brand of jeans. Last year during the anniversary sale, I bought these in grey and I have absolutely LIVED in them! The elastic waist is ridiculously comfortable and the length is perfect for booties! I couldn’t resist buying another pair, so I ordered them in my regular size 2.

Zella Live-In High Waist Crop Leggings – $35.90

zella grey leggings

I am a HUGE fan of Zella brand anything but their Live-In Leggings are by far my favorite item in my entire closet. They are so flattering and the high-waist keeps everything all tucked in like I like it.  I’ve never bought the cropped version and this graphite color looks like a great neutral.  I ordered them in my regular small size.

Shoes

I am pretty good on brown and tan boots and booties, but I have had black and/or grey ones on my list since last Fall.  These are the two that I bought from the sale. I may keep one or both, depending on how they fit and look with some of my other items.  They are both super cute with some fun details, so I’m eager to get them in and try them out.

Vince Camuto Pevista Bootie – $99.90

grey booties

Halogen Piper Bootie – $89.90

black booties

So that’s my haul, from top to bottom….for now at least! There were still a few things I missed that sold out pretty quick, but if it’s anything like last year, I’ll keep checking back on them and they’ll likely be restocked. I suggest you do the same! Good luck and happy shopping!

Factory Fix

J. Crew Factory is always a go-to of mine for stylish, well-made pieces at affordable prices. So anytime I’m near an outlet with a J. Crew Factory, I have to get my “Factory Fix”.  Fortunately, my hometown has one and since I’m on my annual visit with the kiddos to visit my parents, I had the chance to stop in on and do some damage shopping.  Not only did I find some amazing items that I can’t wait to share with you, when I got home and searched for them online, I found that they were even cheaper thanks to the 60% off sale! Woohoo!

First up are a couple of basic tees that, because of a fun detail, are not-so-basic after all. I’m wearing a medium in both because I like a little “give” in a tee, but if you prefer a more fitted look, I think they run pretty true to size. Both tees come in several different colors and at under $20 each, that means it’s time to stock up on a few in my opinion! The shorts are both super cute basic options, but on pretty opposite ends of the spectrum.  The cutoffs, which run big so size down, have a precious little triplet of stars embroidered on the front and back corner of the shorts. At just $24.50, these quickly made it easy to decide to return the $68 ones I’d just gotten in from Nordstrom. Sorry, Nordy! I’m all about style, but price is key! And the “oxford blue” shorts go with everything and fit AMAZINGLY! Get this, they are on sale for just $14.50! Crazy, right? I’m wearing my normal size 2.

I also found some dressier tops that really spice up a simple pair of shorts. A structured top, some shorts, and dressy sandals or wedges are the perfect date-night ensemble or summer party outfit. I’m wearing a small in the gingham sleeveless ($19.99) and an extra-small in the one-shouldered bow tank ($24.00), so I’d say that one runs a tad big.  Both would also be super cute with white jeans. But how cute are those leopard print shorts?! And only $16.50! What?!!?

So, I know it looks like all I tried on were shorts, but I also found some cute dresses of course, because J. Crew does them oh-so-well. First up is this white eyelet dress with the uber-flattering flutter sleeves.  At just under $25, this is the perfect dress for a beach pic, lunch date with girlfriends, or even church. It’s demure, but very flattering at the same time. Sign me up!

I also really like this simple red striped t-shirt dress. It’s a great basic and very comfortable, but the white ruffle trim sleeve adds a fun touch. It’s also a really great length and only $27.50.

Red stripe poplin-trim dress // Gold huarachi sandals

2018-07-09 12.07.05

And lastly, this ruffle sleeve striped dress. The shirt-tail hem, super-soft knit material, and flattering ruffle sleeves make this a dress you could grab and go pretty much anywhere.  I can see it with a denim jacket and wedge sandals or as is with a pair of Converse.  I’m wearing an XS in all three dresses, so I’d say they run TTS. I also have to mention these amazing gold huarachi sandals that are shown in the last couple of pics. If you grew up in the 80’s like me, you might be having terrible flashbacks. But these babies are a much more feminine, flattering version and dress up anything instantly.  On sale for $47.50, these had to come home with me and I’ve already worn them several times and gotten lots of compliments!

That’s it for now, ladies! Thanks for checking in and I hope you found some great finds from my J. Crew Factory trip!

Time and Tru by Wal-Mart

I’m not a Wal-Mart shopper. The lines are too long, the location of items doesn’t make sense to me, and you can never find anyone to help when you have a question. And don’t even get me started on the people-watching! But, when I heard they’d introduced a new line of clothing that was getting good reviews, I figured I’d check it out the next time I needed to do a grocery run.

The store I went to had a pretty good selection of sizes and items in the new Time and Tru brand. The prices maxed out at around $20 and the quality was comparable to Target or Old Navy in my opinion. The line seemed to be mostly Bohemian-inspired items that were on-trend, everyday pieces that you could mix and match.  Like most Wal-Mart brands, the items seemed to run large and I took a small in most of them.

First up is this darling pom pom tunic, which I am wearing in a larger size than I normally would so it can work as a cover-up.

20180423_092906

I love the pom pom details and the elastic neckline allows you to pull it down on your shoulders or wear it further up, depending on your preference.  I’m always looking for a cute, fun, and comfortable cover-up, so for $10, this was a no-brainer for me! This also came in a fun pink, blue, or white version.

Next I tried on this embroidered peasant top in a poppy red color. Though it also came in 7 other colors, this one would be perfect for not only Cinco de Mayo but any of the upcoming summer patriotic holidays with its red, white and blue motif!

20180423_093330.jpg

It’s cotton knit material was super comfy and the floral embroidery is so on-point right now.  It was the most expensive thing I tried on, but still under $15.

I also loved this striped flutter sleeve top for around $12.

20180423_093424.jpg

Pair it with white jeans and you are good to go for any number of summer events! I love the feminine flutter detail of the sleeves as well as the flattering square neckline.  I am a sucker for stripes, but it also came in a floral coral pattern as well as a green stripe and a floral/stripe combo.

With a motto like “Stand tall, wear a crown, and be sweet on the inside”, who can resist a pineapple pattern? I’m wearing this fun pineapple print tank with white jeans, but it would have been super cute with jean shorts too.

20180423_093226.jpg

It’s pretty lightweight, so I’d definitely recommend a tank underneath, but for six bucks and some change, that’s a steal! It also comes in 14 other patterns/colors, so stock up! I fell in love with this one too because well, duh, stripes 😉

stripe tank

And speaking of jean shorts, I found these denim cutoffs in a dark, destructed wash for just under $14.  They have an awesome stretch to them, making them uber-comfy, and were just the right length for my long legs.  They come in 5 other colors and I am wearing a size 4 in them.

20180423_092759.jpg

I’m also wearing a stretchy v-neck tee that’s definitely a summer staple.  It comes in 11 other colors and at under $8 each, you may just want to stock up!

These distressed cotton twill shorts in “red rum” were pretty great too. The 4.5″ inseam was on the short side for me, but nothing indecent.  They also come in an army green and are just under $14.  I love the “worn-in” look of these and the hint of spandex makes them beyond comfortable.  I paired them with this $11 tassel peasant tank for a casual Bohemian look that would be perfect for a barbecue, lunch date, outdoor concert, etc.

20180423_092539.jpg

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with Wal-mart’s new Time and Tru brand and will definitely be checking back as they come out with new pieces.  Check out your local store or for a larger selection and to see the whole collection, visit the website here.

Happy hunting!

My Beauty Routine

I get a lot of questions about my beauty routine, particularly when it comes to skincare, but I’ve always shied away from sharing due to one simple fact: I’m not a beauty junkie. There, I said it. Seriously! Even though I’m a self-professed shopaholic, I’m just not that into products. I’m a big believer in simplicity and maybe I can chalk it up to good genes, but so far, this philosophy has worked for me. But, nonetheless, you asked, so here goes!

20180117_160151.jpg

When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do is splash my face with cold water. Yep. Cold water. Even in the winter. It’s shocking, but it is also invigorating, and it’s just a habit of mine. I’ve done some research and it all says that a splash of cold water can tighten up or close your pores, so that’s reason enough for me. When I actually hop in the shower or bath, I use this cleanser to wash away any dirt or oil from the previous night.  It has these tiny beads with ginseng and Vitamin C and I love the fresh tingle it gives me in the morning. Once or twice a week, I will also use my Clarisonic Mia 2 to help exfoliate any dead skin cells. This keeps my face feeling super smooth, but I do have to be careful not to overdo it since I have sensitive skin. These babies aren’t cheap, but you have to look at it as an investment. While you do need to change the heads out twice a year, the device itself will last you a good while. In fact, I’ve had mine for about 7 years now and it’s still going strong!

20180117_160332

Morning Routine

Once I’m all dry, I slather on moisturizer. I’m not super loyal to any one brand, and as long as it is oil-free and has sunscreen in it, I’m good.  But lately, I’ve been really loving the Garnier “Clearly Brighter” moisturizer. It has Broad Spectrum SPF 30 plus Vitamin C and LHA antioxidant complex to reduce the look of dark spots and help with sun damage. Since I freckle so easily, this is HUGE!  I also love that i’s non-greasy and super light with a fresh fragrance that isn’t overpowering. At under $12, it’s a steal in my opinion. My next step is the only pricey one in my whole routine, but a little goes a long way, so the per use cost is low. I’m not a Rodan & Fields die-hard and before you ask, I don’t sell it. But, I bit the bullet and bought the Multi-Function eye cream from the Redefine line and I do think it’s worth the hype and price.  If I put makeup on, I do it at this point. But either way,  I finish off with a good swipe of Vaseline Lip Therapy. I’m sort of a chapstick connoisseur, so trust me, this stuff is the BEST. My new favorite is their Limited Edition “Pink Bubbly” with its champagne scent and just a touch of rose hue. I’m pretty sure this would be one of the things I took with me to a deserted island.

So, that’s my morning routine and as you can see, it’s pretty simple. Wash, exfoliate, and moisturize. Boom! My night routine is pretty simple too, but instead of washing my face, I use a reusable make-up cloth (a.k.a. make-up eraser) with some micellar cleansing water (I use this brand), which acts like a magnet for dirt, oil, and make-up. I follow it with Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream, a moisturizer that you can technically use day or night, but that’s a little too heavy for me under make-up. I get these by the two-pack at Costco for around $30, which is a great deal! In fact, it’s won multiple awards, beating out much more expensive brands! I once again dab a little of the R&F Multi-Function eye cream under my eyes, swipe some more Vaseline Lip Therapy on my lips, and call it a day night!

Gala time

So, for some reason, January and February seem to be the hot months for galas and other benefits. And, if you’re like me, you’re always trying to find the perfect dress for one. You know…..one that’s affordable, flattering, and comfortable! It’s not an easy feat, but I have to say, I think I’ve figured out the key! Nordstrom!! With their free shipping policy both ways and their awesome selection of dresses for $100 or less, you can order lots of options in multiple sizes to try on in the comfort of your own home and then just ship back whatever doesn’t work. Easy peezy! I spent about 45 minutes on my Nordstrom app the other day while waiting for someone and was able to order 10 dresses that arrived less than a week later. I had a mega try-on session yesterday, since it was a snow day and we were holed up inside anyway, and here are the ones I am actually considering for the event I have in a few weeks:

First up is an LBD. You can’t go wrong with this sort of understated elegance, and I love the black lace overlay. The length is super short, but since the neckline is conservative, it works. It’s comfortable, elegant, and pretty timeless. I’m wearing a small and I’d say it’s true to size.  The fact that it’s only $65 makes this a great option!

Black Lace Shift Dress – $65

20180112_103459.jpg

Next up are two super on-trend dresses because they are both made of the fabric of the season….velvet! The first one is in a beautiful burgundy color and has some sheer detailing on the front and back, making it sexy, but not too revealing. The bottom is asymmetrical and the ruching in the front is very flattering. I’m loving this option and the small fit like a glove.

Burgundy Velvet Sheath Dress – $63.60

20180112_102546

The green floral velvet is a faux wrap style with a plunging neckline. I’m not sure I can/should pull this one off, but it sure is pretty, and very different, which I love!

Green Velvet Floral Twist Sheath – $68.98

20180112_102231

These next two numbers are RED hot and I’m sure you can see why! The first one reminds me of the dress Julia Roberts wore in Pretty Woman, but shorter. I’m no “Pretty Woman” though, so not sure I have what it takes to pull it off. But, it sure does make me feel like a million bucks! The tie top keeps the strapless neckline from being too revealing and the knee-length is flattering and sophisticated. For size reference, I’m wearing a small, so again, true to size.

Knotted Strapless Red Mini Dress – $98

This rose and black brocade dress has to be my favorite so far! The thick fabric is super flattering and I love the gathered sheer fabric above the sweetheart neckline. The bodice is almost like a boustier, which is so sexy, but then the pleats and full skirt keep it playful.  The best part though? It has pockets! I’m wearing a 4P so I’m thinking it runs a little small since I would normally wear a size 2.  This is definitely a dress to get noticed in, and while that’s not usually my M.O., it’s a definite contender!

Fit and Flare Brocade Dress – $94.80

20180112_102928

And last, but not least, is this fun and flirty sequined t-shirt dress in a beautiful blush color. I love how comfy and festive it is and I think it would work for so many occasions! I’m wearing an XS but would feel a little less self conscious in a small. It’s junior sizing, so you know how that goes! You absolutely cannot beat this price, so even if you don’t have an occasion coming up, this may be a smart buy for future events!

Blush Sequined T-Shirt Dress – $38.98

20180112_102013

Whew! So many options that I’m not sure which to pick for the gala we’re attending in February. But let’s be honest…..the fact that 6 of the 10 I ordered are REAL contenders is amazing! That’s how great the selection at Nordstrom is and their size suggestions and the customer reviews are SO helpful! Thanks for stopping in and checking out my options. Mad about Plaid this Christmas

Holiday celebrations range from casual to elaborate, and therefore so does appropriate attire.  I get lots of questions this time of year about what to wear to holiday parties, but most especially, on Christmas Day.  My answer would be, “Well, that depends….”.  Do your plans include a formal invitation or is it a longstanding tradition. If an invitation, did it include phrases like “Festive Cocktail”, “Christmas Casual”, or “Holiday Glam”? That can give you some direction on how to dress, as can the weather, the venue, and even the audience which you’ll be joining.

My family gathers at my in-laws’ home, along with several cousins, aunts, uncles, and even my own parents, sister, and brother-in-law.  Its an early evening dinner buffet filled with lots of good food, wine, and conversation. The kiddos are happily entertained by a playroom that is filled with the childhood toys of my husband and brother-in-law, which somehow withstood both time and two rowdy boys. Because it is a casual event only attended by immediate family, I can get away with jeans.  But, I do like to add some festive flair since it’s the last chance to do so for another year. This tartan vest is perfect, thanks to its cozy quilting and velvet trim, which dresses it up just the right amount. This particular one from Old Navy is sold out, but below I’ve linked a similar one that should do the trick!

Similar Tartan Vest – $34.99

2017-12-19 13.36.03

Another option would be a festive cardigan, like this one in buffalo check from Old Navy. It’s super cozy and a great length! Unfortunately, it too has sold out, but I’m linking a similar option that features darling suede elbow patches that pack a stylish punch.

Similar Buffalo Check Cardigan – $42

20171218_064235.png

Here’s another option and yes, another plaid…..hey, it’s Christmas, right? This tartan infinity scarf was a local find from my favorite boutique, Salon Dixie, but I’m linking a similar one below. While it’s a perfect Christmas day accessory, it will also take you all the way from Fall to Spring, making it a must-have item for your closet.

Tartan Infinity Scarf – $16.99

20171219_083300

Here are some other suggestions in case your plans require dressier attire….

Plaid off the shoulder flannel top – $27.50

shopping

Tartan Blazer – $118

tartan blazer

Tartan heels – $55.97

tartan heels

Tartan Shirt Dress – $39.98

plaid shirt dress

And if you’re lucky enough to get to stay in your jammies all day because you don’t have anywhere you HAVE to be, here are some options too!

Tartan Pajamas – $36.99

plaid pjs

Tartan Slippers – $17.99

plaid slippers

So in case you can’t tell, the one thing these items all have in common is that they’re a plaid or tartan pattern. That’s because it’s such a classic, traditional, and stylish pattern that will never go out of style.  So whether you’re glamming it up at a formal affair, or staying cozy by the fire with the your kiddos for the day, the right answer for what to wear on Christmas is always plaid!

Happy hunting, y’all!

My Christmas Wish List

As a Mom, it’s hard to find time to think about what we want or need. We’re so busy shopping for everyone around us that by the time it comes to our own wish list, it’s easy to come up empty.  So, in an effort to spark your imagination, I’m sharing my personal wish list for Christmas this year.  You’ll find splurges, steals, and everything in between, but hopefully, you’ll also find some ideas to pass on to your own friends and family or maybe even just go ahead and buy for yourself…..Lord knows you deserve it!

my christmas wish list with numbers

  1. A good book is always high on my list of wants. I may not always have time to read daily, but I make it a priority to read regularly.  This book has gotten great reviews and was awarded the title of “Best Suspense Novel”, so it’s sure to keep you engaged.
  2. When Rebecca Minkoff came out with this chic little phone charger tassel, I was intrigued, but then disappointed to find out they were only for Iphones and over $50.  Fortunately, they are now made by a number of brands at a much lower price and for Androids too!  I love the idea of a stylish way to stay connected and this fits the bill.
  3. These faux leather leggings from Spanx have been on every blogger’s page recently, which tells me they must be pretty fabulous. But with the promise of supreme comfort, ultra-flattering fit, and stylish “leather” material that can be dressed up or down, they are definitely on my list of “must-try’s” this year!
  4. OTK or “over the knee” boots are all the rage this season and I’ve been lusting over grey ones for a while now.  These have gotten great user reviews and are an awesome price right now, making them ultra affordable!
  5. This bone link necklace has gone in and out of stock over the last couple of months due to its extreme popularity, but is currently back in stock and a great price for a statement piece! With such a neutral color, it can go with anything and would look great paired against a chunky sweater, basic tee, or simple dress.  I’m already dreaming of all the ways I want to style it, so Santa, you’d better come through 😉
  6. Nothing says cozy like chenille so when you find lounge pants made out of them, you buy them!  These babies are half off right now, too!
  7. I wear ear buds to work out and to listen to my books when I’m cooking, walking the dog, or doing laundry. But, truth be told, mine could use an upgrade and these rose gold ones are just the ticket!  These would make a great stocking stuffer or a teen/tween gift too.
  8. I LIVE in my Patagonia Retool fleece pullovers, so I’m always in the market for another one.  This year they came out with a “Rosewater” color that is sheer perfection and therefore at the top of my list.  Once you try this thing on, you’ll be a believer….trust me.
  9. My husband sorta hates the perfume I’ve been wearing for the last seventeen years, so I’ve been sampling alternatives and am actually thinking I might like this one (Creme D’Nude) even more than my tried and true.  It is one of the fragrances inspired by MAC makeup’s lipstick shades, which I also love, and is just the right mix of musky and fresh.
  10. Everyone I know who has this new brand of shoes RAVES about them, so I’ve definitely had them on my list to try.  But when I saw that they had a leopard flat that looks like a million buck and feels like a tennis shoe, they shot up to the top of my list. If these truly are the holy grail of flats, offering maximum comfort without compromising style, then I’ll happily shell out full price for these any day.

So there you have it…..this year’s personal wish list. Now let’s just hope Santa sees it and is able to take advantage of some of the CYBER sales that are still going on over the next couple of days.  Happy hunting!

Winter Wear

I’m a Southern girl, which means I spend the majority of time in warm-weather attire. In fact, it’s mid-November and I’m just now busting out the sweaters. But, soon the temps will drop and we’ll even get a bout or two of snow, which will quickly make us realize how ill-equipped our closets are.  Unless of course you are reading this post, in which I’m going to tell you all of my favorite must-have pieces for the winter so you’ll be all kinds of ready!

First up is my go-to jacket and pretty much the standard uniform for all good Southern girls: the black puffer jacket.  North Face is my preferred brand thanks to their high-quality down and slim fit.  Even though this one is several years old, it still looks and feels great and the styles don’t change much, meaning I’ll be holding on to it for a good long while yet.  If you don’t have one in your closet yet, change that pronto.  For size reference, I’m wearing a small and I still have room to layer underneath. I also seriously adore this beanie with the fur pom pom. It isn’t so big that it overwhelms you like some do, but it’s long enough to pull comfortably over your ears, and looks adorable on pretty much everyone who wears it. At just $15, this would make a great stocking stuffer for any gal on your list!

While my short puffer jacket is a great everyday option, sometimes even that isn’t enough on the super cold days or when I travel to colder areas.  That’s where the down-filled parka comes in handy.  This Vince Camuto one is on sale right now for a great price and has a fun “fur” trimmed hood for extra warmth, which can also be removed if that’s not your thing.  I ordered this in my regular size small and found it a little bigger than I felt comfortable in, so I ended up with an XS instead.  I got the grey color, but the navy and black would have been great, versatile options too!

And an item that’s still on my wish list, but I’m hoping not for much longer (hint, hint)…..these amazing duck boots.  Now, we’ve all had a pair back in the day, but they were way more functional than stylish. But I’d wear these babies any day of the week! I love the lace-up detail and the knee-high length.  Plus, they can be worn in the rain or snow!

Lastly, let’s not forget rain gear. I don’t know if it’s a Memphis thing or what, but it seems like it’s ALWAYS raining! While I love my good ole Hunter wellies, these glossy booties have been giving them a run for their money lately.  Made by Sam Edelman, a personal favorite, they are way less clunky than the Hunter version and only $38.46 on sale!

Though I’ve lived in this Columbia SwitchBack Jacket for the last couple of years during the rainy weather, I realized recently that I needed something a bit dressier. This Cole Haan jacket, which hits at about mid-thigh, is still totally packable and comes with its own pouch.  The collar adds a hint of sophistication and the slim design is very flattering. Check out the tie detail on the back too! I’m really digging the eggplant color but the seaweed, champagne and indigo colors would have been fun options also.  It’s currently on sale for $129.90 and I’m wearing a small petite.

So, there you have it, folks. No excuses this year! Lots of great winter wear, all on sale. What are you waiting for? It’s not getting any warmer! Happy hunting….

Buffalove

I’m a sucker for a buffalo check, especially a red and black one. Even though it’s one of the most classic prints out there, it’s actually pretty trendy right now. From accessories like purses and scarves to sweaters and even pants, it’s the “it” print this Fall.  In fact, I’ve been teetering on the poncho trend for a while now, trying to determine whether or not it was something I could pull off at my size. But when I saw this red and black buffalo check poncho, I knew I had to try it!

I thought this would satiate my buffalove (a.k.a. love for buffalo check), but when I walked into Old Navy the other day, my heart skipped a beat…..there was buffalo plaid-a-plenty! They had it in a flannel shirt, of course, which is a winter staple for me. Here I am wearing the one I got last year from there with my new favorite black herringbone vest that’s a dupe for the J. Crew one.

I was also really digging their buffalo check accessories….these are perfect accents to a basic black outfit or jeans and a white shirt combo.

But I also really loved this cardigan, which was ultra-cozy and on sale for $25! Tip: Size down, as it runs rather large.

Check out these buffalo check pants! for $27. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen any like these, but I think they’d be awesome paired with a black sweater, a crisp white shirt, or even a denim top. They are made of ponte-knit, which is code for “ridiculously comfortable”, and feature a fun seam down the front, which dress them up a bit.

And these uber-cute flannel pajama shorts are only $10 and would be a great stocking stuffer for any female in your life!

So, that’s my roundup of all the buffalo-prints I’m swooning over lately.  What are your favorites? Happy hunting, friends!

“Faves under Fifty” from the Nordstrom Fall Sale

So, I know it feels like the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale was just yesterday and some of us may or may not still be paying off our bill from that. BUT, the fact remains that the Nordstrom Fall Sale is a good one and you won’t want to miss out!  If nothing else, it’s a great opportunity to buy Christmas gifts…..for yourself or others!  In fact, I already snagged one of these items for my mother-in-law, although I won’t say which one in case she’s reading this. And I am most definitely sending a few of these to my hubby, my Dad and my brother-in-law since, let’s be honest, men can almost always use some extra assistance with their Christmas shopping. At any rate, here are my favorites under $50:
